a. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
b. Tag seven people to do the same.
c. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it".

1) I have a scalloped tongue, and I don't know why. (I know I've mentioned this before. It baffles me.)

2) By the list I had to do for my first full time summer job (a canteen job at the local VA), I had had 14 "permanent" addresses by age.... 16 or 17, whichever I was then.

3) I had a stepbrother for over a decade that I never met. I still haven't met him, but he's no longer my stepbrother, so I doubt I will.

4) I read. A lot. But I read a lot less than I used to - I remember back in junior high school, when people in general baffled and confused me (more so than now, I mean) I would often read 3-4 books in a weekend.

5) I am currently growing my hair out to see how long I can get it - it's something around halfway down my back just now - but I'm getting fed up with it because, though I can braid ACat's hair perfectly well, any braid I put in my own hair twists and kinks within 10 minutes, even if it seems picture perfect when I tie it off. I have no idea why.

6) I once managed to not only roll the truck I was driving all the way over and back upright, but land it straddling a creek in the field next to the road. No, I have no idea how and only a fuzzy memory of the whole thing. I'm pretty sure I slalomed between some trees and a stopsign there, too. I am convinced that if I hadn't been wearing my seatbelt, I would have wound up in the hospital if not the morgue. As it is, nothing but stiff muscles from too much adrenaline.

7) Although I have plenty of maternal instinct when it comes to dealing with kids (or even people who seem to need nurturing) I've never had the slightest interest in having kids of my own.

Right - I don't usually tag people for memes, but it was part of the rules on this one, so... [livejournal.com profile] davehogg, [livejournal.com profile] kyttn, [livejournal.com profile] celticdragonfly, [livejournal.com profile] filkertom, [livejournal.com profile] quadrivium, [livejournal.com profile] robin_anadrith, and [livejournal.com profile] singing_phoenix. (Disclaimer: No one so tagged is obligated in the slightest to meme against their wishes, nor is failure to be tagged any indication that I don't think you have seven interesting things to say! Plus, I've lost track of who's already done this, so if I've been redundant in my tagging, I say sorry!)

Because I could really use some happyfluffy and good distraction right now...

Leave a comment and I will...
1. Tell you why I friended you.
2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a color, a photo, a word etc.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
6. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
7. In return, you must post this in your LJ.

And if I don't actually know you well enough, I'll make something up!

1. I will not mulch the downstairs neighbor.
2. I will not mulch the cats.
3. I will not mulch any politicians, even the ones who would be more useful that way.
4. I will vote.
5. I will read lots of books.
6. I will find something physical that’s fun to do – and yet legal to do in public.
7. I will continue to practice sanity and happiness, now that I have the stepstool I need to let me reach the shelf they’re on.
8. I will celebrate the people I care for, and the people who care for me, and be grateful for how closely those sets match.
9. Any ants I find in my house I WILL mulch without hesitation.
10. I will not set the cat on fire – that only will annoy it.

(I've seen this idea in a couple of variations on my friends list. I like it.)

Since I'm asking other people questions on this, I suppose I'd best play fair.

1 question...
1 chance...
1 honest answer...
That's all you get...

Ask me 1 question.
Any 1 question, anything,
no matter how crazy it is.
An honest answer.

No catch.
Except one. All comments will be screened so your question stays private between you and me, and only you will get to see my answer to your question.

Just for shits and giggles, I thought I'd do the LJ Mojo meme that many people seem to be doing. I've only dated two of the people on my friends list, so I didn't expect much.

[EDIT: Removed due to exceeding immaturity on the part of the meme originator.]

This all seemed pretty random to me, and I've no idea how it's figured - ACat's theory is that is is actually random. Now the REALLY amusing thing about this is that the first time I took it, I was 7% promiscuous. So, for fun, I went back and eliminated one of the two and tried again. Same exact result EXCEPT... 8% promiscuous. One fewer person, and increase in promiscuity. Ooookay.... so I shut it down, went off to do groceries, and came back and decided to post it after all, so I ran it again with both people checked to get the code. Just exactly the same... but now 10% promiscuous. Huh? I ran it again...12%. And again.... 14%, with everything else staying the same. This amuses me unduly. Does anyone out there know how this is figured?

Apparently LJ memes cause promiscuity. Whoda thunk it.

(Also, promiscuous looks really, really funny when you type it enough times, but the dictionary says I'm spelling it right.)

Seen too many places to recall, and I'm too tired to answer any of them, but I'll toss this out anyhow:

Nicked from all over my flist.

How many times has someone on your friends list posted about something and you were really confused, but you didn't want to ask because you knew you SHOULD know? How many times have you felt 'guilty' asking a close LJ friend a question that should be 'obvious'?

Well, here's your chance. If you've missed a few things, missed an entry and are confused, ask me anything. Even something EXTREMELY basic, like where I live! I'm not allowed to get even slightly irritated at any of the questions - we've all missed things before.

If you like the idea, feel free to post in your journal.

[Yes - this can be as basic as 'who the heck are you again and how did you end up on my friends list?']

To the best of my knowledge this catches me up on all the interviews I've received - if I haven't answered a question set that anyone's sent me, let me know?

1. What was it about autographedcat that made you want to up and move to be with him? (I happen to think you both made an excellent choice, BTW)

Well, my relationship with F had broken down in a thoroughly toxic fashion so I had to move, and I wanted to get the hell out of New Hampshire. My relationship with ACat had been steadily growing, so ... it was a real chance for both of us, but it's worked out very well.

2. As someone from the Northeast, what was the biggest culture shock about moving to the South?

The Bible Belt - everything from most of my coworkers having bible verses posted in their cubes to the inevitable question "Which church do you go to?" It was always which do you go to, not do you go. Also other related attitudes, but that sums it up fairly well.

3. What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of me?

Oddly enough, when I read this the very first thing that came to mind was your bright green cast from when you visited a year or two ago! (Sorry! It seems to have made an impression!)

4. Most of us have things that we'd like to try but are prevented by circumstance. Given infinite resources, what would you like to try?

A trip to the moon. Seriously. It's selfish, but there it is. I hate traveling, but I love being places. For that, I'd made the trip. If infinite resources includes a teleporter I would venture further afield - and take everyone along who wanted to come!

5. If you were going to cook dinner for me, what would you make?

How's chili sound, with fresh cornbread? I do a very good chili, if I do say so myself. We also have some jalapeno honey (or maybe this lot is habanero, I forget) which is delicious on cornbread.
kitanzi: (lemming psychologist - by autographed ca)
Kind of late, but here it is:

1. If you could live in any other city, which would it be?

There are several possibilities, but San Francisco is definitely near the top of the list lately. *G*

2. How often do you get people pointing out what "kitanzi" means in Swahili?

You are the first, though I found out what it meant on my own well after "inventing" it. (I am assuming you do know?)

3. With unlimited access to all the world's libraries, in which direction would you go first?

Oooo! Assuming also unlimited time, probably go back towards genetics. That's always fascinated me, and that's what I originally meant to major in. It's hard to get back into cold, though. If I'd stuck with that I think my life would probably be very different, given how much that field has grown since I left college.

4. If you have access to control exactly what you're like in 5 years, describe what would be different.

Hrrrm, that's a hard one. Definitely with a chunk of lost weight, for health as much as anything, and a permanent job that interests me, and hopefully ACat and I would have a house at that point but in many ways I wouldn't want to change things. If I'm controlling in more detail, I am kinda hoping I will find some other relationships, but I'm wary and picky on that these days, and I'm not going there just to "prove my poly credentials" (or my bi credentials), so that's hard to specify.

5. If you could never have cats or kittens again, what kind of pets would you have?

I would actually like to have a boa constrictor again. I had one once - about as much personality as a rope, but a surprisingly interesting pet.
kitanzi: (lemming psychologist - by autographed ca)
1. What's your middle name (if you have one)?

Kelly

2. Are you named (first or middle) for anyone: relative, book/movie character, historical figure, etc.?

The first is out of a baby names book, as far as I know, but the middle is for my father's grandmother or some such.

3. What’s your earliest memory?

At this point I don't know if I remember it for real or just remember being told about it, but my earliest memory is standing at the top of the stairs to the basement on my second birthday just before I took a header down them. Oddly, I don't remember breaking my arm as a result, so I suspect this may be my imagination trying to fill in around it, but I don't know.

4. If money and making a living were no object, what would you do with your life?

Well, take time off for a bunch of conventions, first off. *G* In the long run, dunno. I'd love to come up with something creative and odd, like teaching llamas stand up comedy, but really I dunno. Not what I am doing, at any rate.

5. Why did you start a blog?

It was the best way to keep track of everyone else's blogs? Sorry, I'm not so entertaining today.
kitanzi: (lemming psychologist - by autographed ca)
The second set of questions:

1: Why filk?

I love music, and love singing, but once I moved away from the church where I was in the choir, I didn't really know any other people who liked to sing. I found filk through a concert and some tapes at a Boskone long, long time ago. I didn't find out about filksings until many years later, and when I did it was a wonderful thing, even though I stayed shy and didn't actually sing where anyone could hear me for a long time!

2: What accomplishment are you most proud of?

Odd as it sounds, learning to deal pretty comfortably with people in general.

3: I can't remember hearing you sing. Is it because of my bad memory of the sensory overload of a filk con, or is it because you always end up in a different circle, or is it because you are a listener?

I sing along on things a lot, but I think you mean on my own? I do sometimes, but it's mostly at the housefilks so you probably wouldn't have heard me. I'm also not a night owl, so I rarely stick around long at the OVFF circles. I'm perfectly willing, if you ask some time. I'm still rather shy in many ways.

4: What is your role in running GaFilk?

I am currently treasurer, though I started out as sort of a general "tell me what you need done and I'll do it" person. That may have been a mistake, as eventually the answer to that turned out to be "take over as treasurer"!

5: What is the silliest thing you have ever done?

Um, there are a lot of small silly things, but silliest? Neither ACat or I can think of a good silly story. On the other hand, arguably marrying ACat was the silliest since we're both silly people and we certainly encourage that in each other.
kitanzi: (lemming psychologist - by autographed ca)
The first of the interviews:

1. What did you want to be when you grew up? What do you want to be now?

A writer, mostly. Well, no, really I wanted to be paid for reading, but I never found anyone who would do it. I still wouldn't mind that, actually. *G*

2. Favorite vacation spot?

I'm lazy - my favorite vacation spot would be at home, but with all of the people I miss coming to visit ME!

3. Favorite memory of autographedcat?

Ooooo, you have to make this difficult, don't you? I think it's still the weekend we first figured out this was a requited thing, instead of the foolish crush we'd each assumed it was.

4. What are your favorite things about Dayna and Jenna's very different personalities? What makes them each so lovable in their own ways?

You assume there are any..... well, seeing as neither of them woke me up in the middle of the night last night, I guess I'm willing to concede it. Dayna is much more aggressively affectionate, wanting lots of petting. Jenna is much quieter, but generally much sweeter and doesn't do the pet-me-now-run-away game that Dayna does.

5. If you had $100,000 and you had to donate it to one charity, what would you pick?

One charity? Cause frankly, I'd love to spread it out and partly donate it to all the cartoonists and writers I enjoy online who just don't make enough to even cover their costs. Just one... I'd have to research it, frankly. There are an awful lot of good ones out there, and I'd like to be sure who puts most of their money into their stated purpose and least into administration.

Looks like this one's going around again, but it's generally fun!
Ganked, this time around, from [livejournal.com profile] aiela

Here's the rules:
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me."
2. I will respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better. If I already know you well, expect the questions may be a little more intimate!
3. You will update your lj with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

In this post, talk with your icons, and *only* your icons. Post early, post often, and respond to whomever you want. Just leave a dot or a dash in the comment field if LJ tells you you can't post a blank comment.

Here's a meme variant I haven't seen before, by way of [livejournal.com profile] redaxe:

"Reply to this post, and I will tell you my favorite icon of yours. Then post this to your own journal using your own favorite icon."

Actually, this IS my favorite icon - that's why it's my default. Oddly enough, it's one of [livejournal.com profile] redaxe's, so it all just sort of matches up!
