I'm Larissa and I, too, am a survivor of sexual violence. No pity. No shame. No silence.

(If you're wondering what all this is about, go look at [livejournal.com profile] misia's journal.)

On one hand, I'm horrified by the number of people who have posted this meme. On the other hand, I'm very heartened.

Seriously, I'm horrified as well ... I didn't think I was such an exception, with not having gotten into a situation like that (so far). That's just ... extremely saddening.

Saddening, but I'm glad it's something that people are feeling ok to talk about now. It means that girls will grow up knowing the dangers, learning more ways to avoid them, learning that they *can* talk about them if it happens, and get help, and cope, and survive.

I didn't mean to say that I was horrified cuz people are talking about it, not at all! I'm glad they can talk about it, too. I was just ... I didn't expect that *number* of people speaking up!

That's exactly what I mean about being both horrified and heartened. Horrified at how many it applies to - heartened at how mnay are speaking up.

No, no, I realize! I'm just saying that historically it was a "shameful" thing that wasn't talked of - not even if the girl ended up dying! Believe it or not, I was agreeing with you. ;-)

seconded on the "didn't think I was such an exeption...

I gladly support
No Pity (doesn't help, isnt' needed, I think - but support, yes!),
No Shame (not in being the victim of, only in the perpetrating!),
No Silence (not if it harms or hinders rather than helps -and I certainly don't believe it's necessary. But every individual's own choice).

I agree - it's horrible to know that so many of my friends have gone through it...but I feel a little less like I did something terribly wrong that caused it.

THAT makes this meme completely worth it.

That in itself makes me feel it was worth posting this.

I have also been a little horrified at the response - not that people have responded - that is intensly heartening,

but the quantity of people who have responded, just a really sad statement about human behavior.

I think everyone who has responded/posted is incredibly brave *hugs*

I agree with the general consensus, that it's horrifying that so many people we know are survivors of sexual violence. And, it's heartening that folks are willing to share, realizing that it's the perps who should be hiding their faces in shame, NOT US!

*hugs*

Yeah, horrified and heartened is a good way to put it.
I was only almost a victim, and that was enough.
BTW, have I ever told you that I think your name is pretty? 'Cause I do.

Thanks - as far as I understand, my parents picked it out of a baby names book because they thought that too.

More and more people I know keep adding their names to both this and the subthread about domestic violence. And I want to cry with each addition.

I know that awareness is a large part of prevention as far as this goes, so thank you for adding your support.

We are all strong at the broken places.
