Does everyone play some variation of the game where you add "in bed" to the fortune from your fortune cookie? I don't know where I first picked it up, but I do. Keeping that in mind, ACat and I were both entirely amused by our fortunes at lunch today.

His - You are always loyal and affectionate to people you love.
Mine - Remember to share good fortunes with your friends.

Hmmm!

I know where I first heard it. I was having dinner with a few SCA folks in Thescorre (Rochester NY). (Or was it one SCA woman on a date? I don't remember.) I think I was in town for Simcom, which is the annual gaming convention at U of R (Univ. of Rochester), and I was off on a dinner break. We went to a good Chinese restaurant. It was the first time I ever had Mu Shu Pork. And that was where I first heard of adding "in bed" (or actually it was "between the sheets") after the fortunes.

The other common add-on is "with an axe."

We always use the slight rewording "between the sheets". My all-time favorite fortune cookie message, from a restaurant in downtown Dayton: "You like Chinese food."

As a fortune cookie fortune, that seems awfully self-referential but most amusing!

Heh. My all time favourite fortune cookie for adding "in bed" or "between the sheets" was:

We each have two faces. One we are born with, and the other we make.

On the way back from NJ, we had Chinese at this yummy place in West Hartford called Sezchuan Tokyo (nice widely varied menu; tasty food; good tea). I kept my fortune:

"Your self-confidence shines and makes a great impression on others."

Or how about "Help! I'm being held prisoner in a fortune cookie factory!"
