As I've mentioned, I'm using the Atkins nutrition plan to lose weight. One of the unexpected "health foods" for that is pork rinds, of all things. No carbs whatsoever - amazing. I've never tried them before (hell, I don't recall ever seeing them offered in NH) but I was STARVING today so I just went and got a bag of them from the vending machine.

I've never tried these before, and they aren't half bad. The thing that really strikes me, though, is they crunch almost exactly like rice cakes, which observation will probably equally outrage and offend both people who like rice cakes and people who like pork rinds!..

Pork rinds are yummy! They come in bar-b-que flavor as well :) -H...

That's what flavor I got, actually. Someone else here was eating honey mustard barbeque chicken, and the smell was driving me MAD!

We bought Gwen some "microwave" pork rinds. I'm dying to see them popped. Although - I must admit that I wish they had a clear bag. :-) I'm a true midwesterner/new englander and I've never even imagined trying pork rinds. But Gwen made pork rind coated chicken and it was very tasty!

I know - I was there for it! Microwave pork rinds, though? Popping? Why popping?

Pork rinds *do* crunch much the same way rice cakes do. I far prefer pork rinds, but oh well. :)

Rice cakes are okay - mostly for putting things ON, like peanut butter, which mostly destroys their alleged health properties anyhow :)

*grins* I should pick some up. I went through a phase back in high school where I was completely addicted to pork rinds. They're nice if you miss potato chips too.

Hadn't thought of that!

I know I've been through this before with both you and Autographed Doc, so don't take
me too seriously, but...

I have a feeling a gander at the list of ingredients and the nutritional info would make me
go RSITN. OOC, did you look at what goes into pork rinds? I don't actually know myself.

Ann Onynous.

It probably would - I don't make them a regular part of my diet. On the other hand, it was a godsend to have SOMETHING in the vending machine I could legitimately eat, rather than Snickers bars and Twinkies!

Yeah, I did. The ingredients are as followed, in toto:

Pork rinds, salt.

That's it. That's all there is. Pork rinds (or crackling) are just fried pork fat. The flavoured ones have a bit of spices added to them.

Love,
-R

You know, I've never ONCE had pork rinds.

And no particular desire to try them.

They're a lot like the cracklings from making shmaltz (sp?) but, obviously, bigger and pork flavored.
