Why NOT to read the news

Lines of thunderstorms marched through, apparently right next to our bedroom window, all night. Me, I wake up every half hour or so with crashing in my ears, flashes of light in my eyes, and an absolute conviction that the war has started and I'm right in the middle of it.

Oh, god. Someone shoot me, please.

ACat's a sweetheart, points out I don't stay home often, and so I am calling in sick and sleeping today 'cause I'm just really not very functional at the moment. Bleah.

The war won't start if resonable people have something to say!!!

Reasonable people have been saying it.

However, they're not the ones in charge.

As I see it the UN security council is in charge. And two veto nations will make use of their veto. So what is the problem?

The problem is that Bush, Rumsfield and Cheney are cowboys, who will ignore the UN and go to war anyway if they want to. And Powell has somehow lost the clear-headedness that led him to convince George HW Bush to not go after Saddam 12 years ago.

Unless Saddam caves on the anthrax and VX gas - which might happen, as Saddam's chief concern is staing in power - this war will happen. And even if Saddam caves, I think that the Bushians want the war too badly to stop now.

You don't seriously think that the idiot who's sitting in the White House right now is going to pay the slightest bit of attention to the UN, the security council, the rest of the world or the American people, do you?

Russia, France and China will vote against a war.

The Shrub will start one anyway.

But reasonable people have lots to say, and are saying it - world wide. I don't see it making much impact. *sigh* Either way, try convincing my subconscious, please!
