kitanzi: (bad day - iconomania)
[personal profile] kitanzi
Yesterday, I had a sore tooth. It happens every so often, usually seems to mean something got stuck irritating the gum. I am a little extra careful in brushing for a day or too, and it goes away. I figured that would do it this time, and basically expected it would be much better this morning.

Instead, at 2am, I have a dream that I've bitten a sliver of glass and guess what - it comes complete with drastic pain for a special effect. Wide awake, I find the Oragel left from ACat's tooth adventure last week and slather it on. The whole side of my mouth goes numb, but that so special "bit a piece of glass" feeling is still there, so about 2:30 I take one of the pain pills left from ACat's prescription (for the record, this is basically generic Vicodin, heavy stuff) and manage to get back to sleep. 5:00, just two and a half hours later when the pills should be full strength, it happens again. Wide awake, serious stabbing pain, and I can't be sure because I was asleep, but it felt like there was a small crunching sensation just before it hit. Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Don't ask me how long it's been since I've been to a dentist. Just don't.

As soon as his opens, I'm calling and begging for an emergency appointment. I don't know what this is but good god it hurts. I'm guessing a cavity that maybe just hit a nerve. I really don't know, I've never had a cavity (that I know of). And of course, I can't take any more painkillers until I find out what they need to do.

OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

So, I'm distracting myself by all reasonable means available, including whining on LJ *sigh*

Oww. I'm sorry to hear you're in so much pain. I hope you don't need a root canal...that'd suck. In the meantime, *hug*.

Oh how well I know about dental pain. I once drank a 12 ounce glass of vodka in an attempt to at least pass out to escape the pain with no success.

My most recent dental experience left me with a fair bit of pain, and a dentist who doesn't really believe in major pain killers. He instead had me take 2 ibuprofen and 2 acetomenophen at the same time, which worked suprisingly well, with none of the side effects of narcotics. You might give it a try - it can't hurt and might help.

I'll be thinking of you!

*nod* ACat says that's what his dentist recommended as an alternative when he needed to be at work, and it worked out well. Right now I've already taken the other (with the dentist's ok) and I should be there just about the time it wears off, but I'll keep that in mind. *hug*

That's what I've been doing for the last two weeks. Unfortunately it gives me a stomache ache a lot of the time.

Feel better soon!

Yep, and I'll do it today at work. However, since my regular anti inflammatory with the shoulder counter indicates ibuprophen, it will be a balancing game to see what works out best for me. Hopefully I'll only need to do this for a day or two.

I'm looking at the time and you should be there soon.

That crunching thing along with pain is kind of scary!

*hugs* feel better soon!

I was, and it's done. Dunno what the crunching thing was - possibly a bit of dream after all. Apparently I have exceedingly sound teeth, and a nasty infection. They wound up pulling the wisdom tooth, and had quite a time of it at that! All roots were intact, and hooked outwards. Impressive looking - I asked to see it.

a) Oh my garsh. I'm no stranger to dental problems (a misspent youth - not spent brushing my teeth).
But I don't have your marvelous oral genes. :(

b) Yay! for the Roswell dentists (and their alien technology?). :)

c) You still had your wise guys (wisdom teeth)? You do have good teeth. Mine were taken out in the '60s.

Best wishes,
Ann O.

Well, I got lucky and they weren't impacted. I think that would have gotten them yanked very quickly. The dentist actually seemed quite surprised that all four roots were intact - which made it MUCH harder to pull the damn thing out. I am SO thankful for drugs. LOTS of drugs. Drugs that will let you cheerfully watch the dentist walk away and tell you he'll be back in a few minutes because he wants to let that ligiments loosen up after he tried to pull the tooth out!

Gah. A surprising down side to your genes. A laughing Universe's idea of yin and yang?

Yes, pain meds and anti-biotics are wonderful, but do tell me you're not getting
behind the wheel for a while.

May relief be yours.

Oh dear, does it runin the family?
Here's hoping ACat's much praised dentist pulls through for you as well as he did for him! *hugs*

They did, they did. I may post in praise, myself. Apparently my teeth are marvelously sound (which made for some trouble when they actually pulled the wisdom tooth) but there was a rather nasty infection all around the wisdom tooth. THAT does run in the family, sadly. I'll be going back for some heavy duty peridontal cleaning and such.
