I have a spiffy new computer desk! And the snake has a cleaner perch! And the houseguesting harp has a hat! (And by no means least, my shoulder stopped hurting after nearly six months, hurrah for keyboard trays! (And boo for it taking six months to figure that out, and no thanks to doctors!))

... and it's the same desk model that my mother-in-law has.

And how does she like it?

She doesn't complain about it, but she also doesn't spend that much time in front of computers.

The harp looks terribly dashing!

Yes, well, given the kinds of songs that used be sung with it (and shall be again) is it any wonder if it thinks it's a highwayman?

Looks lovely! (hat and desk)

I like it lots. :) It has one or two details I might wish to be different, but it's a good desk and I am ecstatic about this apparently solving my shoulder pain problem almost completely, literally overnight.

What kind of harp?

From: [identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com
Wire strung, but further than that I know not. You might ask Telynor, whose harp it is.

It's a Cunningham wire harp, which [livejournal.com profile] telynor affectionately calls "The Walnut Monster". You'd have to query her for more details. I'll point her this way and see if she wants to add more. :)

Sorry I didn't see this earlier; thanks to ACat for pointing me to the link. The harp is a 33-string brass-strung wire harp custom made by Bob Cunningham of Atlanta according to a wish list I made nearly 9 years ago (it took him four or five years to come up with this harp design). It's got a metal shank in the pillar so it can handle all that bow, given the kind of pressure wire harps are under, and all the strings are solid brass, no wound strings. It has a compound sound box, four-inch feet, a beautiful biscuit (you can't see it; it's underneath the hat) helping secure the neck to that awesome pillar, and it has a beautiful, ringing sound. It was the primary harp on the Three Weird Sisters CDs and on my solo CD as well.

And it's coming home to London just as soon as I can afford to get it here. :)

Love the snake...what's it's name?

I don't believe I ever named it. (It spent most of it's life wearing the hat the harp now wears, and being effectively invisible.) Any suggestions?

Cool, Moderny desk and a pretty hat :-)

The hat's actually ACat's from the ren faire. I think there are photos of him wearing it in his photo gallery, but I'm too damn tired to hunt them up just now. :)

I *am* very pleased to hear that the shoulder pain is gone, as I recall you suffering from that whilst you were visiting us.

Hmmmmm! Thank you for mentioning that. I've been trying to figure out for the longest time when and how that started, and I thought it started just after that trip but apparently not. I had assumed it was started off by yanking around overly heavy luggage, and perhaps that's still possible, if it had just started then but I just don't know. Any case, thank you - I'm glad it's gone too. I hope it stays gone, if this is in fact what's been keeping it going.

I can't swear to it, because my own timelines get fuzzy; but I seem to recall that it was either a relatively new pain when you arrived, or it started to trouble you while you were here.

Could still be luggage yanking, then.... hmmm, interesting. thanks for the confirmation!

I thought you had a real snake! And then I couldn't figure out how we'd missed it when we were over...

Nice desk. Glad your shoulder's feeling better.

Nono, I used to but not for many years. It's a good desk, I like it - and I love having my shoulder working almost like new again. (Almost... give it a week or two, I bet it's just fine! I'm jubilant!)

Oh.
