Battle of the earworms
Oct. 13th, 2004 02:32 pmIt's really bad when a song you love becomes so entrenched in your head that you become desperate to get it OUT. It's worse when you try to replace it with a different song - and they merge into some hybrid horror that you STILL can't get out of your head, and you can't sing it, either.
I've been humming and singing Caledonia all damn day today, and most of yesterday, rather to coworkers' bemusement. In pure desperation I dug out a printout of Postmortem on Our Love - and now I've got some incomprehensible mishmash of the Postmortem lyrics trying to shoehorn themselves into some variation of the tune of Caledonia. Someone let me out of my braaaaaain......
(And please, don't suggest I turn it all into a filk. It's just not going that way!)

Date: 2004-10-13 02:47 pm (UTC)The love we had had to up and die
I've cut it up and looked inside
But I can't figure
The bottle, book, and a single glove
That symbolize our ill-fated love
Give me no clues how it came
To such a grisly end
Now I'm doing a post-mortum
Because I think about us all the time
I've laid you bare upon the table
And I'm looking in
Now that you've become a stranger
I wonder why you up and fled
I guess it must be something
that I said.

Date: 2004-10-13 07:15 pm (UTC)What, only two songs stuck in there? Count yourself lucky, lass. Not too long ago I had three of the things
"runnin' all 'roun' my brain". With a tip of the old propeller beanie to 1) the Happy Song Virus by Paul Estin,
2) Carrot Juice Is Murder! by The Arrogant Worms, and 3) Cows With Guns by Dana Lyons -
o/~
[1] Bobby, what's that you said?
[2] I hear the screams of the
[3] Cows with Guns.
[2] Moo, moo, moo.
[1] Don't worry; be happy!

A cure? I don't know. Maybe some Meatloaf at volume will drive them out of your head (like a bat out of hell).
Or maybe some Dave and Tracy? There was a D & T song circle at Wellesley College on Monday, but we didn't go
(not handicapped accessible).
Eerily yours,
Ann O.

Date: 2004-10-13 09:57 pm (UTC)You put the lime in the coconut, you drank them both up
You called the doctor, woke him up,
And said, "Doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take,
I say, Doctor, to relieve this belly ache?"
And he say "
Put the lime in the coconut, you such a silly woman!
Put the lime in the coconut, drink them both together.
Put the lime in the coconut, then you feel better.
Put the lime in the coconut, drink them both down.
Put the lime in the coconut, and call me in the morning,
I'll tell you what to do."
I think I'm missing something here. Ah! You're not a silly woman. Sorry, this only works for silly women.
(Wasn't that a Roy Orbison song? :)
