I was officially told today that my training for my new postion (the sideways sort of promotion I mentioned before) will be in Parsippany (sp?) NJ after all. Not only that, it will start December 6th and last for two weeks. Right now is quarter end, I'm dead tired and I'll post more about it later - I don't really have much more than that for details just now anyhow. But I'm told it's only an hour or so away from NY, and I'm not sure how far from MA, but I know at least Maedbh7 is bus-savvy. :) Anyone want to hang out and keep a homesick filker company somewhere in that general area (doesn't actually have to be IN NJ)on the weekend of December 11th? (It could be worse, much worse, for timing, but right now I'm feeling sorry for myself for having to be away from ACat for the two weeks for a lousy training course. I was SO hoping it would be here after all.)

I'm not sure if I have the kids that weekend, but absolutely, yes. (And, of course, you're welcome to come out to LI as well!)

Two weeks of training? And in New Jersey? Oy. Bummmmmer. Parsippany is 40 some miles west of N. Y. C. Whether or not that's
an hour away could vary wildly depending on time of day (rush *hour*) and mode of transportation (car, public transit).

Do you know how you'll be getting there, and if you'll be able to get around while you're there? I can just imagine you
climbing the walls if you're basically stuck in a hotel room all that time with no transportation. But driving in the
Greater New York area is not for the faint of heart, at least by my standards. I hope some local filker / NYMPHO
can come to your rescue.

Sorry if this Comment is somewhat downbeat. Best wishes anyway! :)

Thanks! I wouldn't dream of trying to drive in NYC - but busses and trains are apparently plentiful. I guess I'll find out, huh? As for getting there, the company will apparently buy me a plane ticket, and a number of others from our location are going at the same time for the same training.

We don't live all that far from there, and you're welcome to come here at any point. Mail me with details of where you'll be and we can figure out a good route between.

*hugs*

I'll do what I can to be there, hon. And having already done the trek to LadyMondegreen's house, I support the idea of potentially meeting there, since I think I can find that again. -H...

Of course!

We'll need to work out details, especially once it's a bit closer to the date.

Wow, I'm getting overwhelmed with offers here! We'll have to work something out, maybe a way to see several of the localish people at once on the weekend? *hug*

I was figuring something like that.

Maybe an open house somewhere, or a housefilk or something?

I'd like that, if it can be arranged.

Parsippany is spitting distance from where I work, and only about 20 minutes from my house. Wanna go out to dinner or something when it happens?

*sigh* Just in case you didn't see it in my post from today, that training trip has been cancelled. I'm sorry - if I ever do get rescheduled for it, I'd love to take you up on the dinner offer if and when?

I used to live right near there; it is indeed accessible to NYC, as long as you can get to a park-n-ride. If you're not renting a car, your hotel might have a courtesy shuttle. If you want advice on what to do in NYC, let me know. :)

As for Massechussetts--a good 5-6 hours by train, as I recall.

I'll note, btw, that if you have a free whole weekend, it's -very- worth considering Philcon, running December 10-12th.

Hmm! I'll think about it, but I'm not sure I want to commit to having enough damn energy for a whole con sandwiched between two intensive weeks of training.

If it had been the weekend before, you could have come to the MASSFILC meeting; one of our members frequently drives up from NJ. Sorry the timing doesn't quite work.

We're in Wharton, which is about 15-20 min. from Parsipanny, tops...

The offer is very generous and greatly appreciated - but if you read further in the LJ, you'll see that that training session was actually cancelled on me as of last week. If it ever gets rescheduled, I'd be happy to take you up on that!

Do you go to Arisia? I noticed a few friends-in-common from that crowd...

Perhaps we've already met!

I have in the past, when I lived up in that area. It's harder to get to now that I live in GA. We may have, even!

I'm curious now - I was wondering which of the Rachel's I know that you might have found me through, and they're both on your friends list. Did you find me through Rslatkin or Tigerbright?
