This puts me in mind of Simon, named after Simon Templar. Chosen One companioned him for years before we met. As a baby kitten, he looked like a drowned rat, but Chosen One (and I) found him to be "The Best Cat In The World". In our humble opinion, of course. :)

It took a few years after we sent him through the Final Portal (after 19 and 1/2 years), but eventually I achieved seniority over Simon in Chosen One's life. My occasional dreams and daydreams of him are still sad, but Chosen One's have mostly been of happy memories. To get on topic...

Simon was an indoor cat. I don't think he ever met a mouse, but he did meet insects on occasion. And hadn't the froggiest idea what to make of them. I've had some cats, lying half asleep and a fly buzzes by, and ZIP! A paw whips out and, in one motion, the fly is lunch. Not our Simon, though.

I remember him looking through a back window in one of our apartments onto a roof section where squirrels would scamper. They appeared mildly interested in him, and he mildly interested in them. But even without a window or screen in the way, that was about it. No fierce and mighty hunter he!

Ah - a humorous memory has surfaced, of Simon walking on that same roof section, but in the snow. He'd put one paw down, lift it up to shake the snow off (with obvious distaste), and repeat the process with each step he took. Which weren't many - he was more than glad to come back in to *his* Real World. :)

Ah well. Life is good, with much to be cherished.
