When I came into work this morning, I was taken aback to see our other building blocked by yellow "Police line - do not cross" tape. I asked our security guard about it, since she was just propping up the door of our building and apparently looking over that way to see what was going on. She claimed to have no idea but said several fire trucks and emergency vehicles had come by earlier and were probably still over on the other side of the building. Very odd....
Well, my building was still opened, so I trundled on up to work and joined in the speculation. Various bits and pieces of rumor were floating around - the other building was evacuated, there was a fire, there was a wall collapse, there was a bomb... Finally, a few hours later, the semi-official news came through to the supervisors, who I overheard.
It was a box of kittens.
Yep, some unknown soul (who, if smart, will never ever own up to it) had brought in a closed box with kittens in it and left it unattended somewhere in the other building. It apparently appeared suspicious enough that someone called the authorities to report a bomb scare - and the rest of it built from there, including evacuation of the building. (I do note that no one evacuated OUR building, or even told us what was going on.)
But, the highly dangerous box of kittens has been contained and hopefully gotten homes. Northern Georgia has been saved from the heinous threat, and all is well.
