I don't usually get around to posting about my weekends, but I guess I want to hold onto this one a little longer.
nrivkis and
acrobatty came to visit us and check out the Atlanta area for possible relocation there. ACat was just about to take them off to the airport when I left for work, and I'm missing them already.
It was a great weekend, all around! Friday night turned into an impromptu dinner party, with them plus
folkmew, her husband Ed, their kids,
telynor, and her son to fill the apartment. There was music and merriment, lots of food, lots of fun, and I'm pretty sure everyone went home happy, those that went home. Those that stayed seemed to be enjoying themselves as well, and eventually all went to bed to be ready bright and early for the kangaroos!
telynor heroically got herself and her son up at an ungodly hour to join us, and got at least one good picture at the kangaroo reserve. The two hour tour was, well, unique. I can honestly say I never expected to see a 1 week old kangaroo which had been expelled from the pouch and preserved in a small (like 1-2 ounce) flask. It was also a lot of fun and quite fascinating, seeing kangaroos that close. I'm glad nrivkis thought of it. Afterwards the intrepid kangarooers went back to telynor's for more music and socializing and, eventually, pizza after our more friends (Matt and Mary) came to join us all again. Exhausted, we crept back home with nrivkis and acrobatty and had a fairly early night of it after a pleasant round of swapped backrubs.
Sunday had all sorts of possibilities back when we were discussing it ahead of time - the Fernbank Science Museum, the Atlanta Celtic Festival, whatever struck our fancy - but in the actual event we had a nice, lowkey day at home for most of it, and enjoyed it thoroughly. There was a nice brunch out at a local restaraunt while acrobatty caught up on his sleep, then we all spent most of the day watching Coupling, playing games, messing around on computers, reading comics and cartoons, snuggling happily, and talking. Eventually I reluctantly got a bit organized since Matt and Mary were coming to dinner (and more music, and more socializing!) so I made a quick trip out with our two guests for a little bit of groceries and minor necessities. Our dinner guests arrived and shortly after (not as shortly as I'd planned, but organization was never my strong point, really) we all sprawled around the living room eating a vast amount of food. Damn little is left, especially the apple cobbler, so I assume it came out well! Eventually even this had to end, and we gently shooed Matt and Mary out the door so everyone could sleep, and be ready for the dreaded day of work and airplanes and getting up early. I'm terrible at goodbyes, and it's been an outstanding weekend and a great visit, so it's just that much harder with withdrawal pangs on top of it. Planning on visiting them in return only helps a little - it won't be for many months yet.
Today, of course, is being a typical Monday. I'm all thumbs, can't concentrate and I feel like I've got post-con blues. I started trying to type this up a bit over 2 hours ago but, shockingly, I keep getting forced to do what I'm being paid to actually be here to do.
It was an outstanding weekend with a LOT of dear friends, but I miss them. Weekends rock, Mondays suck, and this one's just that much worse. Oh well.... hugs will be trailing after them, hopefully to catch up and cheer them up when they land, since I suspect they're pretty blue just now too....
