Yeah, just what we don't need
Jun. 17th, 2010 06:03 pmI'd never have credited it, but Snopes seems to confirm it, and so I'm passing it on:

Bottle bombs disguised as random littering. Yeah, what we really need now is something that blows up the people who bother to throw out trash. *sigh* (I do think I'd probably try to kick it into an empty parking lot or lawn, given the choice, rather than call 911.)

Date: 2010-06-18 02:24 am (UTC)Um, I myself wouldn't even *think* of kicking a bomb. It *is* a bomb, after all. And I don't think the asskicking boots in your delightful userpic would be much protection. :)

Date: 2010-06-18 06:30 am (UTC)Yes, Sodium Hydroxide and Aluminum do react rather powerfully, although it isn't 'incendiary' (it gets hot but not enough to ignite anything). The main part of the explosion is the buildup of high pressure, you can then get chemical burns from the NaOH.
(A thin glass bottle will do even more damage with glass shrapnel. Fortunately it it more likely that the cap will blow off before the glass shatters unless there is a serious flaw in the glass.)
