If this year continues as it started, it's going to be a wonder.

Since I had Thursday and Friday off from work, ACat and I celebrated our New Year fairly quietly at home with each other, then Friday I left him to his WoW and friends thereon, and headed out to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] sfeley where he was diligently putting in time at work on his day off. Fortunately, we had better plans on how to use a perfectly good day off, so we headed out to a great steak lunch, then went off to see (so to speak) Dialog in the Dark and also the Bodies exhibit, which were showing in the same building with a combined ticket option. Bodies I had already seen in MI when I went to visit [livejournal.com profile] davehogg some time ago, but it was well worth seeing again. Dialog is incredible and intense (even eyeopening, if you'll pardon the term in this context), and well worth checking out if you have a chance.

Having entirely enjoyed ourselves there, we headed out to retrieve his son, then back home where plans evolved into pizza and watching a rather silly scifi movie with his wife (I think it was The Ice Pirates?) and then some quality time for ourselves. Saturday morning wound up with us all going out for breakfast (poly for the win!), then I tagged along for some minor errands (including a trip to Borders, which is hardly a hardship), came back and watched the pilot of Pushing up Daisies (which is as good as I keep being told, yes, I'm hooked!), then I headed back home to get ready with ACat for my truly extravagant Christmas gift - VIP (Tapis Rouge or red carpet) tickets to the Cirque Du Soleil show Kooza.

I've been enchanted by Cirque since I discovered it, but this is the first show I've been to. It was magical, and we rolled back towards home around 11 hoarse from cheering and hooting, and sore from clapping. It was every bit as good as I'd hoped, and that's saying an awful lot.

Today will be resting a bit, laundry a bit, groceries a bit - all the stuff that has to get done to keep the household going. Tomorrow, of course, is back to work. As the start of a new year, though, I've got to say that this has been one of the best, and I do mean to go on as I've begun! It's a happy thought.

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Cirque's Saltimbanco 10+ years ago in Hamburg, before I moved to England. It was excellent - and they not quite as well known as they are these days. I'd love to go see another show... glad you got the chance there! :)

They are, almost literally, unbelievable. It's very different seeing them in person than it is on tv.

>>came back and watched the pilot of Pushing up Daisies (which is as good as I keep being told, yes, I'm hooked!)<<

Then you have my condolences; the show's already been cancelled by ABC due to low ratings. Three more eps will be burned off, and word is they don't provide any narrative closure to the series. But at least you have all the eps since the pilot now to watch.

Sometimes it's good to discover a show *after* it's already been canceled. You don't have the disappointment of losing it after you all in love with it, and can simply appreciate it for what it is.

I think y'all would like a show out of the UK called "The IT Crowd". It's pretty funny. They have clips on youtube. You should check it out if you're not familiar.

So I heard, long before I saw the pilot. I am given to understand that it's worth it anyhow, and I'll just have to not get attached to the characters.

You sound so much more relaxed & mellow-happy than I've read you in a long time. Good stuff.

In some ways I am. :) Plus the holidays are over, and frankly they always seem to stress me out a bit.

Wow, Tapis Rouge! We've never done that. Is it worth the extra money?

I'm glad you liked it, Cirque is something else, isn't it? :D

The dour, responsible grownup part wants to say we could have done this much cheaper and it's all a very irresponsible use of money - but the twelve year old jumping up and down and squeeing in the background is completely drowning her out. *grin*

Depends on how you feel about frivolous expenses. *I* thought it was worth it, but I enjoy being treated like a VIP.

I commented to [livejournal.com profile] kitanzi at one point: "See, this is why VIPs are usually rich people. It costs this much to get treated like this." But between the preferred parking, the special admission area (no lines to speak of), and the free booze and nosh, you really felt like you were, if not royalty, at least minor nobility. So, y'know, it didn't suck.
