kitanzi: (brain hates body - by Sam (?))

Went to bed last night with a headache, woke up this morning with a headache, which rather abruptly went nuclear (subjectively speaking) and became one of the worst migraines I've had. I had, fortunately, just about to decided to call in sick, and so I did. Imitrex did what it was supposed to do (after another subjective eon or two), and I am no longer cowering and whimpering in bed with a face mask, fully clothed for warmth. God I hate these. I'm glad I don't get them more often.

My question, though, whether anyone else who gets these has any tips for improving the hangover feeling afterwards. I'm dopey, tired, and feel like I've been beaten with a stick. More ibuprophen and lots of liquids seem like good ideas, but any one know any way to shorten this?

UGH! That SO sucks! Migraine's blow.

I'm thinkin' vitamins. B12 and stuff. I take a multiple in liquid form that is absolutely wonderful. It's called and it is The Source of Life. It's got all kinds of good stuff in it plus spirilina and is.... get this!..... not nasty tasting!!!! (smells not so good, but tastes better than that) It tastes citrusy and rocks the bod. Gives energy and good strong fingernails, plus. I swear by it (as can be witnessed here in this Jehovah's Witness-esque schpiel) I've also turned David out and he is part of my growing Source of Life cult. Join us..... Join us...........

Heh... I'll consider that, though I was thinking more of what I might have on hand today. I have multivitamins, and I already do try to take those regularly. I know it's not quite the same, but it can't hurt.

Cool! For added incentive to joining our band of vitamin energized joy freaks..... There is no weird haircut required! :-)

I suspect it's different for different people, aside from the sensible things you're already doing, like staying hydrated.

For me, I actually try to stay away from ibuprofen after a migraine because it makes me kind of dopey afterward. Naproxen is a little better that way, if I need to take more drugs. Also, I like to get outside as soon as I can, even if it's just for a short walk or a brief sit-down-in-fresh-air-- the more I stay cooped up, the loopier I feel.

Then there's the caffeine debate-- a small amount will often make me feel better, but might make things worse in the long run.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you, all useful ideas! We have a small porch/balcony I can go sit on, and I do have naproxen. Caffeine is also managable to try.

Lot of liquids helps me usually, and excedrin migraine, and also a long hot shower. The heat relaxes some of the muscles that tighten during a migraine (at least with me, my neck and shoulders are miserable after a migraine) and generally I end up feeling a bit better.

I definitely should get the excedrin, and I thought about a hot bath for the sore muscles (yeah, I had the same problem) but it seemed like too much work. Next time I will. Thanks!

I admit, there are days when getting into the shower seems to be more than I can handle, especially with a migraine or a migraine hangover. If I can just get myself to turn on the water (or if you can get AC to do it for you) and step in and just stand there, after 5-6 minutes actual washing becomes easier. Though, some nights I've just stood under the hot water, then climbed into bed wrapped in a towel and mostly still damp because I don't have the energy to deal with drying properly. I suspect AC wouldn't mind helping with drying either; Greg never did.

I'm sure he wouldn't have minded at all, but he was at work by the time I was sufficiently out of pain to consider anything so ambitious. It might still have been a good idea by the time he got home, though - I will keep it in mind for next time.
I wish I wasn't so certain there will be a next time. Thank you for the suggestion!

I second this... nothing helps me more post-migraine than a long hot soak and lots of liquids.

Good luck -- I hope it's a long, long time until you have occasion again to try out these remedies :)
