When I'm waaaay short of sleep I hear voices. Not very distinguishable, more like a continual low-grade conversation in the background as if the radio were on really really low. If I concentrate I can pick out individual voices and inflections indicating sentences or sentence fragments, but never pick out meaning or words.
That's when it's time to go get a LOT of sleep. Uninterrupted, sweet deep sleep.
Yes, I get that too when I'm tired enough. Conversations with no words - just voices and inflections. Today I'm going top speed in a very busy, loud environment so I'm not really getting that, or the corner of the eye fuzzy hallucinations that don't really look like anything. (I don't think I'm QUITE tired enough for those, thankfully.)
