(Thanks for letting me steal the pun, ACat!)

Since I seem to have nothing of substance or use to say here anymore, why not a meme.

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want -- good or bad. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people remember about you.

My strongest memory of you is your kindness to me in a moment of deep pain at Gafilk. I don't think you even knew it. I was deeply depressed this past January. It was beatin' on me hard at Gafilk. I tried really hard to contain it and not let it show - out of pride, out of not wanting to be a pain in anyone's backside. I came late to the banquet - because I'd been so sad I had to force back the tears and force myself to go. So when there was nowhere to sit with no one I knew or even people I didn't know... I sat at the table by myself. That *didn't* help. It felt like a lot of my life which was pounding down on me already. Soooo I sat there & tears rolled down my cheeks despite my deliberately willing them not to. I almost left so as not to lose it in public. I was about to...

And you asked me to come sit with you and have your last glass of champagne. You have such a lovely, soothing alto voice.... and a soft, quiet, sweet way. I didn't want to refuse. Sitting there with you made me feel a lot better. The champagne whipped my chemz back into something fit for public consumption so I was in a place to say yes when a dark-haired stranger asked me to dance :-)

*Hugs for being the rockstar friend you are :-)*

Y'know, you just made my day with that. *hug* I've been down and sorry for myself for most of the morning for no good reason, and that really picked me right back up. I'm very glad I was able to do that, you're a great person and I'm glad I've gotten to know you as a friend. :)

A dark-haired stranger is quite glad you said "yes"

I think my earliest memory of you is seeing you sitting next to AutographedCat in a circle, and wondering who the lovely woman was.

*blush* Awww, thanks! One of my earliest of you is being in a circle with you and Callie, while you two were singing one of your songs. I was singing along and hoping desperately both that you could and couldn't hear (yeah, I know it makes no sense, that's what acute shyness does to people), and you apparently did cause you looked over and smiled at me. That really made my night. :)

Your and Rob's amusement when I pathetically begged to visit Starbucks for coffee on Saturday morning, when I stayed with you a couple of years ago :-)

*grin* You should come visit again, that was fun! (And I do hope you know that the amusement was goodspirited. *grin* You should see Rob without his caffinated soda - he's at least as pathetic!)

I should start off by saying that whatever you say always has substance. In fact, here's a story about an example.

Right after the Space Shuttle Columbia was lost and many of us were grieving, I forwarded on to the MASSFILC mailing list the lyrics to a Cynthia McQuillin song I thought would be comforting. [livejournal.com profile] madfilkentist scolded me for posting lyrics I hadn't written, because, well, that's what he does, and when I indignantly wrote about it in my journal you commented to say he was right.

It was a good thing you hadn't told me that to my face. *grin* OTOH, my expression probably was pretty entertaining... but when I got over my further indignation I realized that you were right, that [livejournal.com profile] madfilkentist was right, that I had broken a rule of the list, and that I was in the wrong to be indignant. Probably not the Scourge of Filkdom, but still, I was wrong. I was thinking of quitting the list in a dramatic fashion over it, and your reply helped me get over myself. So, in the end, I owe you thanks for the reality check, and for being someone whose wisdom I can trust.

*blink* Actually, I don't remember that! But if it was useful, then I'm glad. I'd hate to see you leave the list over something like that. *hug*

The email you sent me after the whole torture debacle. It really made me feel better. *hug*

I'm so glad - I really did think you summarized what I had been thinking in much better terms than I'd been able to come up with. And had the gumption to post it and cope with the flames, which I did not. :)

First time I met you at GAFilk. In the hotel lobby, Rob had his arm around you, I was sitting across and playing Dar Williams tunes. Good times, good times.

Heh, yep! I remember once at a con you were doing Sweet Kate and the Ghost of Lost Love in the lobby, and I never did figure out how you were planning on doing both parts before I butted in and did the female part without asking. :)

Yeah, women keep doing that when I play that song. :) Both [livejournal.com profile] ladysprite and [livejournal.com profile] spiritdance have done that too...
