Bits and pieces

Not link sausage so much as Kitanzi gumbo, but
Gafilk was great, or so I hear. I was sick in one fashion or another for quite a bit of it, but I enjoyed what I did get to an awful lot. I also wound up with the consolation prize of being the best rested I have ever been on a Monday following a filk, and I still got to sing on stage with Karen Anderson, so how much can I seriously complain? I'm not going to even attempt a thumbnail of a sketch of a con report, but hugs to all the people I missed hugging, and more hugs to the ones I didn't, and I hope I see you NEXT year.
Other bits and pieces... it occurs to me that Lucien's Library should have more than just books. The Dreaming should have all the songs and movies and such that never quite got finished, too, down to the lowliest fanfic or fanvid. I hope so, because I occasionally get plagued with snippets in my head and no way to do anything more with them. I would still love to see a Doctor Who vid to Ballroom Blitz, just to show Rose and Jack dancing on the top of the invisible space ship moored by Big Ben during an air raid. I'd also love to see the vid ACat and I virtually fleshed out via email today for Firefly to Dear God. It's too perfect, right down to the closing line "And if you’re up there you’ll perceive,/That my heart’s here upon my sleeve./If there’s one thing I don’t believe in.../It’s you, Dear god." while Mal stands up in Serenity Valley, staring into the sky after they've been ordered to drop their weapons, still wearing his cross and with his soul visibly shredding behind his eyes. I could go on and on - we did - but if I'm ever in the Dreaming, that's what I want to go find now.
(Oh, cool! While trying to find a good link to explain Lucien's Library to those unfamiliar with Sandman, I found The Invisible Library, "a collection of books that only appear in other books." What a neat idea!)
Hmmm, what else, what else. My life doesn't lend itself to amusing anecdotes, it seems, or else my memory doesn't lend itself to journaling them. Probably both, which is why I am SUCH a lousy correspondent. I think I should probably just cut off an ear and send it to poor
annonynous who by now has probably written me off entirely, or should.
I found out the other day that I've been probably going about trying to find a permanent position at the company I now work at in allllll the wrong way, and this at the advice of someone who actually managed it. Oh well. That's an exercise in frustration I won't get into here. Perhaps it will go better now.
Gafilk did have the helpful effect of pushing me to start making more music on my own. It's an amazing thing, and even more amazing that I so often forget it, but when I'm happy I make music. When I'm unhappy and make music ANYHOW, I get at least a little happier. Why is that such an elusive thing to remember? Anyhow, I've memorized a couple songs since Gafilk, including Neil Gaiman and Lorraine Garland's Postmortem on Our Love from the amazing Flash Girls. In fact,
joyeuse13 and
abovenyquist had a small dinner party with
curiousmay9, ACat and me, and while I was vigorously chopping up the veggies for the stirfry I sang that (at request!) for the two of them and looked up to see her effectively hiding behind him and both of them looking satisfactorily creeped out. *G* (I would have done A Girl Need a Knife for an encore, but I'm afraid I don't know it well enough...)
I also found out recently that
klrmn is moving crosscountry even sooner than she'd originally planned (at least in our hearing), so that's depressing. ACat does point out it gives us yet another reason to visit CA, but still. I'm seriously debating investing in some good quality duct tape on short notice. *sigh*
Oh, and when ACat renewed my LJ account, he did it in the form of a gift which gets me 100 icon spaces, so I'm playing magpie and collecting all the fun icons - point me at some of your favorites! (And PLEASE let me know who to credit!)
Sputter, mutter, witter and ramble. I think it's time and past time for this to end, but since my brain is no longer consumed to the degree that it was by Gafilk and personal issues, it's time to get back in this habit, I guess. Hi, my name's Kitanzi, and I'm an LJ addict. We now return you to someone who has something to actually write about.
