Well, to me at least - possibly not to everyone else, so....

Last night I had to leave my half drowned car in the thigh high puddle here at work. There was just no way I was going to get it out just then short of a tow truck dragging it. As a result I was up pretty early so ACat could drop me off at work on his way to work. (I also managed to start the car and move it to a new spot, much to my relief. It's stalling and had and inch of water inside, but it does work, and I am most happy!) This actually worked out pretty well, since I started an hour early and got to make up some time I missed by going home sick Wednesday. I also worked through lunch yesterday and today to make up the rest of that time, so today was looking to be a loooooong day, by my own choice.

So, not surprisingly, it dragged. Friday's the slow day anyhow. Midafternoon ACat reminded me to ask about the particular dates we'd agreed on for our honeymoon trip to England in February, so I did. My supervisor said she'd have to check on the dates for the blackout period, which usually ends at the end of January, more or less. I politely asked her to find out today, if she could, since ACat apparently had a line on some stunningly cheap seats. Unfortunately, she came back and told me it was less so this time instead of more so - she couldn't approve any vacation starting before February 11th. I said something or other like "OHHH, okay." and went back to my desk, stunned. We have been planning on being gone 2/2 through 2/15, and the options running through my mind just then ranged more from quitting through blackmail through, well, quitting. I left ACat a brief voicemail, then sent an email a bit later. By that point I'd progressed to considering the possibility of him going by himself, and enough coherency that I could send a polite email to my supervisor explaining why it was so important to be able to go earlier and asking if there was any way to finesse this. ACat and I traded stressed out emails for an hour or so, and then my supervisor came back smiling. She told me that I owed her big time, but since one of the people in the department I would be moving to by that time (whole different story, I'm getting a sort of sideways almost promotion) was planning on coming back from maternity leave a little early, she'd stick her neck out and approve it. Wheeeeew!

I immediately called ACat and told him to book the tickets, which I think he did in the next five minutes. Naturally, I was elated and ready to swear personal loyalty to my supervisor at this point - so she chose this afternoon to do my one-on-one review. *G* Actually that went swimmingly well, and she mentioned that part of why she was willing to stretch things for me was due to my performance, which meant more to me than any number of certificates and reward points! So, I'm a happy newlywed and looking forward to England, and less likely next year to assume that one year's blackout dates will be the same as the previous year's - and I'm going to be a very, very good girl until then. :)

YAY ENGLAND!
