(He explained daemon as "(In Philip Pullman's "Dark Materials" trilogy people have little familiars, called 'deamons', that follow them around. Children's daemon's can change their shape - a sparrow, an ermine, a butterfly, a mouse - but their form is fixed when their companions become adults.
