Ancient and decrepit - and loving it!
37 seems pretty damned good right about now, and in fact I'd have to say that overall life keeps getting better every year, in spite of life being full of Goddamn Learning Experiences. I guess that's how I get to keep having birthdays, right?
autographedcat and I were invited over to have brunch with
joyeuse13 and
abovenyquist yesterday morning. I knew they knew it was my birthday, but I *didn't* expect to be kidnapped off to the Georgia Renfest - hot damn! Their friends William and Heather came along as well, though we managed to somehow get seperated fairly quickly. I hope they had fun, too, since the rest of us had a blast. Over the course of about six hours we saw Hack and Slash, The Zucchini Brothers, The Washing Wenches, bits of a number of other shows, and dozens of vendors, street bits, and amusing patrons as well as court passing by, and several rogue chickens. The weather was the best we could have hoped for, being a reasonable temperature and slightly overcast (though I still find the neckline of my shirt outlined in sunburn this morning - well worth it!). Brunch, such as it was, was at the most disorganized Waffle House I have ever seen but dinner was a thing of joy and beauty at Chin Chin. I'm sure it was improved by the lot of us being half starved, but it was still woooonderful. ACat and I will undoubtedly go back to the fair at least once this year (with luck we'll be able to take along the same company), but I had such a lot of fun (I find the fair's always more fun with more enthusiastic people to share it with), and came home with a really neat reproduction painting, a T Shirt for ACat (Wench Magnet!), a pretty pair of earrings for me, and memories of one of the best birthdays ever. Some surprises are like tax audits, and should be avoided like the plague, but this kind of surprise... well, it's priceless. Thanks to the bunch of you, and as Joyce pointed out, major bonus husband points for ACat who realized before we left the house that he'd better pack my comfy shoes for me! *EG*

We caught up with Heather and William later that night, and they likewise said they enjoyed meeting you but were sorry we didn't get a chance to hang out more.

I don't think I've seen a renfaire with rogue chickens before, how interesting.

I didn't see any chickens, no - but then I didn't see any pics of the birthday girl, either! *pokes ACat*

People sometimes complain about aging, but it usually beats the alternative. :-)

Just joining LJ at last, in the hope it will encourage me to look in on friends more often.

I'm glad you had such a great time and I wish you a great rest of the year.
Sorry this is late, I' still catching up after my few weeks absence from LJ!
I feel the same way about life getting better (speaking in the big picture sense). I'd so much rather be this way than one of those whose best years were high school :).
I've had one surprise birthday party and it was great! Especially cuz it wasn't the type of thing where everyone burst out of the dark and scared me to death :).
