Ancient and decrepit - and loving it!

37 seems pretty damned good right about now, and in fact I'd have to say that overall life keeps getting better every year, in spite of life being full of Goddamn Learning Experiences. I guess that's how I get to keep having birthdays, right?

[livejournal.com profile] autographedcat and I were invited over to have brunch with [livejournal.com profile] joyeuse13 and [livejournal.com profile] abovenyquist yesterday morning. I knew they knew it was my birthday, but I *didn't* expect to be kidnapped off to the Georgia Renfest - hot damn! Their friends William and Heather came along as well, though we managed to somehow get seperated fairly quickly. I hope they had fun, too, since the rest of us had a blast. Over the course of about six hours we saw Hack and Slash, The Zucchini Brothers, The Washing Wenches, bits of a number of other shows, and dozens of vendors, street bits, and amusing patrons as well as court passing by, and several rogue chickens. The weather was the best we could have hoped for, being a reasonable temperature and slightly overcast (though I still find the neckline of my shirt outlined in sunburn this morning - well worth it!). Brunch, such as it was, was at the most disorganized Waffle House I have ever seen but dinner was a thing of joy and beauty at Chin Chin. I'm sure it was improved by the lot of us being half starved, but it was still woooonderful. ACat and I will undoubtedly go back to the fair at least once this year (with luck we'll be able to take along the same company), but I had such a lot of fun (I find the fair's always more fun with more enthusiastic people to share it with), and came home with a really neat reproduction painting, a T Shirt for ACat (Wench Magnet!), a pretty pair of earrings for me, and memories of one of the best birthdays ever. Some surprises are like tax audits, and should be avoided like the plague, but this kind of surprise... well, it's priceless. Thanks to the bunch of you, and as Joyce pointed out, major bonus husband points for ACat who realized before we left the house that he'd better pack my comfy shoes for me! *EG*

Happy belated Birthday!

Thank you!

Happy Birthday! I hope that my 37th is as good!

[identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com 2006-04-30 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope so too, cause this was a really good one!

[identity profile] joyeuse13.livejournal.com 2006-04-30 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Whee! I'm so glad we managed to pull off the surprise! Well, until we got out of Atlanta, at least. :)

We caught up with Heather and William later that night, and they likewise said they enjoyed meeting you but were sorry we didn't get a chance to hang out more.

[identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com 2006-04-30 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
You did, you sneaky devils you! *bearhug* I'm sorry we didn't get more chance to know them, too... they seemed like very interesting people.

[identity profile] celticdragonfly.livejournal.com 2006-04-30 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Happy Birthday! We are of an age - I had not realized. I'm glad you had a good surprise. I'd heard about it and had been gleefully waiting to hear how it went.

I don't think I've seen a renfaire with rogue chickens before, how interesting.

[identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com 2006-04-30 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
We are? I hadn't realized it either, actually. I think I had assumed you were somewhat younger than me. The chickens were rather fun - ACat just put his photos up at http://www.autographedcat.com/gallery/renfaire0406 though I'm not sure he got the chickens.

[identity profile] celticdragonfly.livejournal.com 2006-04-30 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, I had assumed the same of you. I've gone from a stage where I had lots of friends older than me to one where suddenly it seems I have lots who are younger.

I didn't see any chickens, no - but then I didn't see any pics of the birthday girl, either! *pokes ACat*

Happy belated birthday!

[identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com 2006-04-30 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I wish we could have taken you two along, it would have been fun.

[identity profile] sdorn.livejournal.com 2006-04-30 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations! I've been 37 for almost 4 years now. It's a good age.

[identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com 2006-04-30 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm certainly enjoying it so far. :)

[identity profile] otherdeb.livejournal.com 2006-04-30 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Happy belated birthday! Glad you had so much fun. And the shirt for ACat is just great! Wish Boy and I could have been there with you guys!

[identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com 2006-04-30 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure - Ren fairs are definitely something where more is merrier! :) (What does your icon say?)

[identity profile] otherdeb.livejournal.com 2006-04-30 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
There is a larger pic of it here (http://pics.livejournal.com/otherdeb/pic/0000b8x0/g14). And it was drawn by Audrey cohen who does the wonderful web comic The Bunny System (www.thebunnysystem.com).

Heh, I like that!

Happy birthday!

People sometimes complain about aging, but it usually beats the alternative. :-)

[identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com 2006-04-30 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! And yes, it surely does!

A Prime Age

[identity profile] annonynous.livejournal.com 2006-05-01 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
OK, the last few days have been - what's that thing that happens to you while you're making other plans? So...

Happy Belated Birthday to a real fine Georgia peach!

Thanks to both of you! (And yeah, that thing that happens sneaks up on me a lot too! :) )

[identity profile] maedbh7.livejournal.com 2006-05-01 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Happy birthday :) Sounds like a wonderful time to have and to be. -H...

[identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com 2006-05-01 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! It was, in fact!

Ren faires? In spring? That's tough for me to get used to; Ohio has theirs in/around September, and Sterling (NY) is in the summer. Anyway, it sounds like you had a blast!

And oh yeah -- happy belated birthday!

[identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com 2006-05-01 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Yeah, apparently they used to have a brief fall run, too, which makes more sense to me in Georgia.

[identity profile] autographedcat.livejournal.com 2006-05-01 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they stagger them about because by and large it's the same vendors, and in some cases, the same performers.

[identity profile] catalana.livejournal.com 2006-05-01 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Belated happy birthday! (Sorry - I was in Chicago and not online most of the weekend.) I'm glad you had such a great time!

[identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com 2006-05-01 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Really good birthday surprises are always fun... now I have to start plotting for ACat's! >:)

[identity profile] wrymuse.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
I find you to be fairly interesting and I was curious if it would be okay to friend you?

[identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Um, sure, if you like. I don't seem to post much lately, but you're quite welcome to. Can I ask how you found me?

[identity profile] wrymuse.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
It was probably on ask_me_anything. I've had your user info open for a couple days now so the exact details escape me.

[identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Ah ha, yep - you were the person who was apologizing for the jackass's bad behavior when I asked about places to find plus sized slips. *G* I thank you for the thought, though you hardly need to apologize for someone else's idiocy.

[identity profile] wrymuse.livejournal.com 2006-05-02 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Ooo! That's right. I remember now. I always feel the need to apologize when humanity shows it's ass. I'm glad it made an impact of some sort however. I hope it brings some optimism to replace other's pessimism. I'm also glad it didn't seem to phase you.

[identity profile] djdragonmatrix.livejournal.com 2006-05-03 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Heather and I did quite enjoy meeting you both. We would have liked to hung out more with you guys, but we had wedding stuff to get to back in Atlanta.

Happy belated. ;) Hope you had fun, we sure did.

[identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com 2006-05-03 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
Certainly did, and it was fun meeting you two. I hope the wedding went well!

[identity profile] djdragonmatrix.livejournal.com 2006-05-03 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
As wedding go, it was one of the more interesting I've been to. Well, it's also only the third I've been to....

[identity profile] devinsong.livejournal.com 2006-05-08 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
Happy belated birthday!

Just joining LJ at last, in the hope it will encourage me to look in on friends more often.

Robin

[identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com 2006-05-08 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, and welcome to the nuthouse!

[identity profile] joecoustic.livejournal.com 2006-05-10 11:47 am (UTC)(link)
A very belated Happy Birthday!!!

I'm glad you had such a great time and I wish you a great rest of the year.

Sorry this is late, I' still catching up after my few weeks absence from LJ!

I feel the same way about life getting better (speaking in the big picture sense). I'd so much rather be this way than one of those whose best years were high school :).

I've had one surprise birthday party and it was great! Especially cuz it wasn't the type of thing where everyone burst out of the dark and scared me to death :).

[identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com 2006-05-10 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. Life keeps getting better and better, and frankly I like that. As for surprise bday parties, I think this is the second I've had and MUCH the better! :)
