Uses of time, good and otherwise

I am currently waiting for the rain to start so I can go run around in it like a mad thing. I used to do that a lot, it used to be fun. I currently look like the losing end of an epic battle with a horde of mad dust bunnies (maybe rabid, definitely pissed off) because I have been packing books. And more books. And moving around the boxes of books already packed.

We are not moving until the end of July. I started out justifying this as the fact that however early you start packing, it's never done in time, so I should really at least pack up the books. I think it's mutated into some sort of coping strategy to deal with months of transition betwee "we live here" and "we live there", when I don't even know yet where there is. (I don't do transitions and change and in between stages very well.) Whatever the reason, we have a wall of boxes of books in the bedroom now which will certainly surprise the cleaning service tomorrow, and many clots of grey dust drifting and sticking and drifting some more. I think some running around in the rain like a ten year old sounds like a really good idea, if only the rain will break.

(Remember, this is Georgia. I would probably not be planning this for the beginning of April if I were still in NH, but here it's actually very reasonable!)

Didn't know you guys were planning to move. Where to? I will be doing that myself in another month or two as SP packs up our current home to move to Africa.

We're looking, but it won't be for a few months yet. Mostly it's that we want a larger place - well, we have for a while, but my new job makes it a lot more possible so we're planning on it one way or another. (Um, I never did hear back from Mary about maybe all doing dinner while she's here. Can you tell me if she's mad, or just too busy to answer?)

I suspect the latter; Mary was frantically trying to get the last few work things done that were required of her before leaving to come back here, last I spoke with her. She's on her way back now and probably will call you (or have me do it) within the next couple of days.

That would be great, and if she doesn't have time that's not a problem (I expect the two of you want as much time together as possible) but I did want to be sure neither of you was upset, as I never did hear back from either of you after apologizing about the bad timing for dinner before she left.

I can absolutely relate to your transition phase. At least now I have a house I can visualize, instead of a vague "post-held housing assignment." That makes it easier (except for the ugly ulpholstery.) I'm impressed with your early start - I'm moving much sooner, and haven't started anything. Monday morning my first task is to call the relocartion specialist!

Sorry for the lapse in communication, but it really was just pure overwhelm. The last few weeks have been pretty busy. I'm back in town for about six weeks and would love to get together with you and AC - let's get our calendars lined up soon, so we can be sure that happens.

FYI, if I'm upset with someone, I'm generally direct enough to say so; silence on my part usually means nothing more sinister than that my social-connections fuse is temporarily shorted out, generally when too many other things are lighting up the board. I know I need to work on that, and I'm sorry if you were left feeling uncertain of your welcome.

That's something we *don't* get out here, is rain that's both heavy enough and warm enough to justify going and running around in. Plenty of drizzle and plenty of puddles to stomp, but the rain is cold-cold-cold and even more so when it deigns to make down in quantity. I remember an old friend of mine from California spinning around in Little Five Points exulting in the rain in July... she was from San Jose and they don't get anything like that there...

May your rain dance prove enjoyable.

(And those damn dust bunnies are vorpal, ainna? TEETH!)

Tonight in NH we're expecting some combination of rain, snow, and sleet. That wouldn't be good stuff for running in.

I wish I'd thought to do that--I was mainly just relieved I made it home in one piece from *driving* in it.

It actually didn't start until the middle of the night, and then it was (of course) a booming thunderstorm, and I had the windows open. No soaking, but not much sleep either!

Sounds to me like an EXcellent idea!

So did the real rain wake you up in the wee hours? Though with the lightning, that rain didn't look fun to run around in.

We had a big summer shower about quitting time one summer day last year. The whole parking lot was a shallow stream. I took off my sandals and joyfully waded to my car. I want more rains like that!
