Hello and goodbye

[livejournal.com profile] aiela came down last Friday to visit for the weekend, so our home has been full of cuteness with her and ACat snuggling and making eyes at eachother and... stuff. *G* We did all manage to get out of the house to see the Bucket of Baby Panda at the Atlanta zoo (even cuter, believe it or not, and ACat has photos somewhere), and we also got her to come along to the Gafia housefilk at the Suttons Saturday night. This was the first housefilk she's been to, I believe, and she swears she had fun, so it's all good. I enjoy the housefilks for the socializing as much as for the music, but both were very good this month - I just wish we had the space to offer to host one ourselves.

For that matter, I wish we had more space period. It's a small apartment with no guest room, so poor Aiela and ACat wound up on a mattress in the middle of the living room. I feel like a bad hostess, but we can only offer what we have - at least there was a best quality bedwarmer on offer. *EG* (I go to bed much earlier than either of them, by natural inclination, or the practical solution would have been the bed for the couple, and I could have had the couch for a night or two. It might still be worth figuring out a way to make that practical in the future, but more and more I am fixed on the idea of I want a house, dammit, with at least one more room than we have. *sigh* Some day, damn right.)

So, there was time for us to all hang out together and plenty of time for the two of them, and it was a very good weekend. I really like her, and I was nearly as sorry as ACat when it was time for her to go home today, but whatcha gonna do - as I pointed out to ACat, getting to borrow her from (the mythical) [livejournal.com profile] davehogg includes an implicit promise to return her in a reasonable timeframe and in at least as good a condition as we got her in, no matter how much it sucks and whether I believe he really exists or not. No amount of tinkering seems to get that teleporter to work, alas.... I do so love poly when it's working. :)

Yay for visits and cuteness.

I will say I do love that in this house we have finally managed to arrange a guest room with an actual guest bed, yay.

Keep 'em working on the teleporter, though.

I will, I will! (And if I manage it, you will be one of the first to know!)

Put me on that list for the transporter beam... you guys are one of the reasons I want it. (It seems we'll be fixing the distance problem for one set of folk soon, but I don't expect *everybody* to move to Seattle; we'll run out of room!)

But yay for sweeties getting along! And seconded on poly being The Best when it's working right...

Hey, if we could manage a practical and affordable teleporter, we could have a permanent floating con, I betcha! (Whether this would actually be a good idea I won't even speculate.)

ooooh, that could be dangerous. We'd need a serious SMOF or two to run that...

speaking of floating cons, if they ever actually organize anything resembling a bid, I'm throwing my lot behind Worldcon in Luna City in 2069... and if I live that long, I'm damn well going, even if I can't come home.

Awww! Thank you so much for sharing your home and your Acat.

:) Miss you guys already!

Miss you too, and I do apologize for not thinking to ask if you two wanted to hang out in the bedroom while I went to sleep on the couch. I didn't even think of it until you were gone, and I think it would have been better all around for backs and such. I want a guest room, dammitall.

Good luck on that search, too... total agreement on apartments being a right bastard when you want to have others over... [livejournal.com profile] cflute and I fought that one for months until we finally decided screw it all, let's househunt...

[identity profile] kitanzi.livejournal.com 2007-02-19 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Total agreement on which apartment to get? Or scheduling rights on who has what space when? Or something else entirely?

I think (being the occasional guest in the one bedroom apartment), that he meant it's a PITA to have a just-one-bedroom apartment, when one would like to have private time with a non-local sweetie, that doesn't impinge too much on the other partner's space. And I definitely think that a house with a guest room as a Very Good Thing! I had such in Portland, and we sort-of have one here, and if/when I ever *own* a house again, I want some kind of provision for such there/then as well.

Ah, ok then, thanks. :)

[identity profile] bardling.livejournal.com 2007-02-19 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
You did what you could, and it's way better than not being able to do at all. :)

*hugs*

Oh, I know, I'm just wishing. :)

Well I happen to know of a cohousing group in the greater Boston area which has lots of very friendly/fannish/poly friendly/ people in it.... (grin)

Just sayin.

Hugs!!!!!

I sympathize though. To make the Gwen et al visit work we're going to bunk the boys with us and stick poor Gwen and Joe on a futon in the boys room and Gavin and 1 ESD on the bunks and 1 ESD on the floor. Sigh.

I want more room too. We won't have significantly more room in cohousing but theoretically at least someone could use the guest rooms in the common house and we hope to have a 3 bedroom which would mean a bedroom for each boy and an attic which will do double duty as a guest room.
