Having lived through many an A/C-less summer (granted in NJ, where it gets just as hot, but doesn't get such an early start), I recommend wearing wet clothes. It's rough on your furniture, of course, so you have to be careful about where you sit, but a wet t-shirt and cotton skirt are about as good as it gets.
